“Lakewood RV Resort” in Flat Rock, North Carolina - was rated: 8

This is a tidy, carefully managed campground/park model resort in the NC mountains, family owned. Most of the RV sites are graveled and quite level, with concrete patios and fairly large grassy strips between sites. Some back ins sites also available. Most RV sites have little to no shade; those with shade seemed to be occupied by seasonals. Bathrooms in main building also serve the pool, but this is mostly an adult community so not likely to get too dirty; that said, bathrooms were very clean, with large showers. Park models are located on terraced hillsides and closer to the road on which the campground is located; owner said most are owned or leased by Floridians who come to the mountains in summer to escape the heat. This park is very convenient to the interstate, and close to many of the attractions east of the Smokies, including Biltmore, the Carl Sandburg House, etc. Not recommended for those wanting a real “mountain woods” feel, but otherwise a nice place to stay. Very little road noise despite proximity to the interstate.
