Greenlantern and I visited Cedar Key museum last week. It has some very interesting historical American Civil War memorabilia and photos, as well as a description of early Cedar Key life. Cedar Key was at one end of the first Trans-Florida railroad so it was an important place before and during the Civil War. Salt was a very important commodity during the Civil War. There was no refrigeration, so food had to be preserved in salt. The ocean was the only ready source of salt that the Southern Forces had. The St. Clair Whitman House is a period house at the Cedar Key Museum. The following are some photos of the interior of the house. Please look at the main page of Happy Camper to view the rest of the photos of this wonderful old house. The tour was well worth the 1$ price of admission and illuminated what life was like for the Whitmans in those early days.Greenlantern is not feeling well.
