“Candy Hill Campground” in Winchester, Virginia - was rated: 8

Very clean, but cramped. We were fortunate to be in the tent sites at the bottom of the hill next to the rail road tracks. No hookups so we just ran off of batteries and carried our gray water out. Right next to a state highway, when the wind blew right the first night we couldn’t hear the cars as we were down in a valley. Up on the hill with the big rigs you would always here the trucks rolling by. They do have rules, Two things come to mind. 1) We checked in and brought the camper to our site and then set up. I then drove up to the store to check on our friends coming in and was followed by a golf cart riding employee because I had not yet hung my vehicle tag “just checking to see if you were lost” 2) An actual security guard doing rounds at night told our neighbors to put out the camp fire because the fire marshall could come at any time and write a fine…????? Anyhow, clean place, very much law and order, judging by the reviews probably one of the nicer places in the upper valley. We go up for the Cedar Creek re-enactment so we’ll be back.
